FD Prevents Fire From Escalating on Fairwood Rd.

Incident appears to have stemmed from improperly installed light fixture.

The Madison Fire Department was able to stop a fire from escalating at a residence on Fairwood Road on Tuesday.

The incident appears to have been caused by an improperly installed light fixture in the dinning room. Firefighters used a foam extinguisher to to "wet down" an area of charred beams and burnt wiring connected to the fixture.

The housekeeper of the home called the department, saying she heard a "pop" and then smelled smoke while cleaning. No one was hurt and the homeowner was not present at the time.

The damage was discovered after firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to find a heat source above the plaster ceiling in the dining room.

After laying down a tarp to catch debris, firefighters removed the lighting fixture and opened up a small hole in the ceiling, which revealed and exposed the beams and wiring.
