Harding Road Repair Leads To Closure, 14-Mile Detour, Officials Say

Long Hill Road in Harding is expected to be closed for up to 9 days while repairs are completed, according to officials.

HARDING, N.J.– Starting Thursday, the section of Long Hill Road in Harding that crosses the Great Brook will be closed up to nine days while a damaged pipe is fixed, officials said in a press release.

Officials estimate that 4,500 vehicles and an uncounted number of cyclists travel the road daily.

The segment was temporarily patched in August after a hole developed upon the loss of the top of the 30-inch corrugated metal pipe that crosses under the road, officials said.

A 14-mile detour will be created on Meyersville Road/Fairmount Avenue to Southern Boulevard to Pleasantville Road/Village Road to Whitehead Road to Long Hill Road, officials said. Signs will be put in place.

“We are aware of the importance of this cross road that runs through the Great Swamp not only to motorists but also to bicyclists, who use it as a key recreational route,’’ said Freeholder John Cesaro, the county
governing board’s liaison on roads and bridges.
