2 Killed In Highway Crash Into Tree In Bergen Co.: Police
A woman, 96, and man, 77, were killed in a crash on Route 17 North, police said.
RAMSEY, NJ — Two people were killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 17 North after the car left the road and hit a tree, Ramsey police Chief Brian Lyman said.
The passenger, a 96-year-old woman, was killed on impact, and the driver, a 77-year-old man, was extricated but succumbed to his injuries a short time later, Lyman said.
Ethel Toth, of Upper Saddle River, and George Sadue, of Rhode Island, were the only occupants, police said.

At this time, the cause of the 2:30 p.m. crash is still undetermined, and no other vehicles appear to have been involved, police said.
Traffic was diverted off of Route 17 North for several hours until the highway could be reopened, police added.
