Community Mourns Loss Of Bergen Co. Sheriff's Officer

Sheriff's officer Timothy O'Hare, of Waldwick, died after a battle with cancer, officials said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Condolence messages flooded social media as news of the death of Bergen County Sheriff's officer Timothy O'Hare's came to light.

It was with a "heavy heart," Sheriff Anthony Cureton said, that the Sheriff's office announced the death of O'Hare, who passed after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

A father and husband, O'Hare served as a U.S. Marine before becoming a Sheriff's officer. He served as a crisis negotiator for the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, and was a member of the Sheriff's Honor Guard, according to officials.

Also a Waldwick resident, he was a trustee on the Waldwick Board of Education.

Known for his integrity, good sense of humor and willingness to serve his community, O'Hare "showed bravery during his fight with cancer," the Sheriff's office said.

"Our prayers and well wishes are with O'Hare's family and friends," the Sheriff's office said. "O'Hare will be sorely missed."
