Gottheimer Sworn In To 118th Congress, As House Elects New Speaker
New Jersey Democrat Josh Gottheimer was sworn in to his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Rep. Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) was sworn in as a member of the 118th Congress after four days and 15 rounds of voting for Speaker of the House.
Gottheimer, who beat Republican challenger Frank Pallotta in the November election, was sworn into his fourth term to represent New Jersey's Fifth District. He secured 54.7% of the vote, to Pallotta's 44.3%, according to The Associated Press.
The incumbent Democrat was sworn in, along with other House members-elect, by new Speaker Kevin McCarthy following the longest speaker race since 1859.

Also co-chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus — a group that works to find bipartisan solutions —, Gottheimer said, in a statement, that he would continue to fight for families, veterans, seniors, first responders, small businesses and communities.
“As part of my oath I took, I swore to support and defend the Constitution — a responsibility I endeavor to uphold every hour of every day," Gottheimer, who lives in Wyckoff, said. "At its core, it’s about protecting our fundamental freedoms: from speech to religion, to safeguarding our democracy and the values we all hold dear."

District 5 covers parts of Bergen, Passaic and Sussex County, and includes most of Bergen.
“I also swore to defend us against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to protect our state and community, and to fight for the people I represent," Gottheimer said.
