Months Of Delays Expected In Mahwah As $520K Road Project Mounts

"Every effort will be made to assure that inconveniences are minimal and all work will be completed as quickly as possible," a notice said.

MAHWAH, NJ — Motorists can expect delays while crews work to improve Airmount Road in Mahwah across a staggered, three-month period, a notice issued to residents said.

A $524,000 project to improve Airmount Road, from Franklin Turnpike (west end) to Airmount Avenue (east end), will likely result in traffic delays over the summer, local officials said.

Funded by a New Jersey Department of Transportation local aid grant ($226,000) and the rest by the township, the project will include minor drainage improvements; spot curb; sidewalk, barrier-free ramp, sign and guide-rail installation; and bridge parapet repair — all of this is included in the initial stage from May 1 through June 30.

Crews will also mill and resurface the road in a second and final stage from July 31 through Aug. 4.

During the initial stage of the project, the contractor (LaForza Construction) will perform work in one road section at a time. The section being worked on will be closed to through traffic, and motorists will be required to follow the detours established.

It should be noted, officials advised, that Airmount Road will be closed to through traffic at Franklin Turnpike each morning at 7 a.m., and reopened to traffic at the end of each work day at 5 p.m.

Local traffic will be provided with access to and from residential properties during the closures.

"Every effort will be made to assure that inconveniences are minimal and all work will be completed as quickly as possible," officials said in the notice.

Notice will also be provided of expected closures for the final stage of the project at that time, officials said.
