Mahwah HS Junior Builds Igloo
The 6-foot-tall igloo can fit up to eight people standing and 3 people lying down.
Mahwah resident Chris Florio has done something most high school juniors haven’t: he’s built an igloo.
Florio, inspired by YouTube videos, built the igloo over the course of many days spanning two months and made it large enough to fit eight people standing and three people lying down.
“It just worked out,” Florio said, noting that there had never been enough snow to build an igloo in the previous years.

But what exactly did it take to build the 6-foot-tall igloo? Snow, a large plastic mold, a saw and about 20 hours.
Florio and two friends have even slept in the igloo, which is equipped with outside lights and all. He says he used a bucket to block the entrance in order to keep the inside temperature warm.

He even said his dad had a “martini party” with friends one day - and that’s exactly what Florio wanted.
“[I did it] for other people to enjoy it, really,” Florio said.
He plans to go in it this weekend and keep it until it begins to melt.
