MAHWAH, NJ — The Mahwah Museum is honoring the 150th anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad this weekend.

The Donald Cooper Model Railroad has been altered to re-enact the coming together of the west- and east-bound railroads.

The first transcontinental railroad was completed on May 10, 1869 when the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad were joined in Promontory Point, Utah. The new railroad meant that coast-to-coast travel was cut down from six months to about five or six days.
