Mahwah PD Responds to 30 Accidents, 4 Slips in Three Hours During Sunday's Icy Conditions
The majority of the accidents were single vehicle spin-outs or collisions involving fixed objects, like signs, trees or telephone poles.

It was a busy day for the Mahwah Police Department, as most of Northeastern New Jersey battled freezing rain and slick roads Sunday.
According to police, they began receiving numerous calls for motor vehicle accidents at 8 a.m. ”due to to icing caused by freezing rain” and responded to 30 motor vehicle accidents in a three-hour period.
“The majority of the accidents were single vehicle spin-outs or collisions involving fixed objects, like signs, trees or telephone poles,” said the Mahwah Police Department.

But there was at least one accident on Route 287 North that left a passenger with serious injuries after the vehicle struck a tree and left the two occupants trapped inside the vehicle. The Mahwah Fire Department, assisted by the Franklin Lakes Fire Department, extricated the pair and they were transported to the Good Samaritan Hospital Trauma Center in Suffern, NY.
Several roads in Mahwah, including Franklin Turnpike, Ramapo Valley Road, Miller Road and Seminary Drive had to be closed until they could be salted and sanded.

In addition to the accidents, Mahwah Police and Mahwah EMS responded to four injuries sustained by people slipping on the ice, two of which suffered head injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
There were 231 accidents and 103 “aids” reported by the State Police between midnight and 10 a.m. Sunday, as Northeast New Jersey battled freezing rain and slick roads.
