Mahwah Police Praised For Daring Rescue Before SUV Burst Into Flames

The Mahwah police were praised for rescuing a man from a fiery crash on Route 287 recently.

MAHWAH, NJ — Mahwah's police are being praised for helping a driver escape his vehicle just before it burst into flames on Route 287 last month.

"Several weeks ago while you were sleeping," the police posted on social media on Friday, "the Mahwah Police responded to a fiery car crash and rescued the driver saving his life."

Lt. Mike Blondin and Officer Chris Lupo were praised for helping the driver get to safety in the late-night crash with a large tractor-trailer, which took place on Oct. 19.

"Make sure nobody else is in the car!" one of the officers is heard yelling.

Mayor Jim Wysocki said, "Members of our Police Department didn't hesitate to take life saving actions to rescue the driver of the car who had been trapped. The driver is recovering and is very thankful for the measures our officers took to save him. If you see any members of our Police Department, please be sure to thank them for their service."

A report on Fox said the 29-year-old driver, from New York State, has been released from the hospital and is recovering.
