Mahwah Student Earns Perfect Score On ACT

MAHWAH, NJ — Jonathan E. Koa is in a very prestigious group of students. Koa earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

Koa is a junior at Mahwah High School.

Principal John Pascale offered his congratulations to Koa on the "wonderful achievement."

Marten Roorda, ACT chief executive officer, called Koa's achievement "significant and rare."

"While test scores are just one of the multiple criteria that most colleges consider when making admission decisions, your exceptional ACT composite score should prove helpful as you pursue your education and career goals," Roorda said in a letter to Koa.

The ACT is a three-hour exam consisting of English, math, reading, and science, sections, along with an optional writing section. Of the 2 million members of the class of 2018 who took the exam, just 2,760 earned a perfect score, or about two-tenths of 1 percent of students.

Koa is at least the second Bergen County student to earn a perfect ACT score this year.
