Man Accused Of Unleashing Dog On Ringwood Cops Dies In Jail
The Florida man was taken into custody Monday, after he allegedly unleashed his pit bull on police during a traffic stop in Ringwood.
PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ – A 54-year-old Florida man accused of unleashing his dog on Ringwood cops during a traffic stop died after having a medical episode Tuesday night at Passaic County Jail, according to authorities.
John Baker suffered from an apparent seizure while in the jail’s intake unit and taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where he was pronounced dead, Bill Maer, a Passaic County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, confirmed.
Authorities are continuing to investigate for an exact cause of death.

Baker was taken into custody Monday after being charged with aggravated assault on police and drunk driving, NorthJersey.com reported.
The newspaper reported that Baker was pulled over for erratically driving his tractor trailer and unleashed his pit bull on two officers during the traffic stop. Police shot and killed the dog after it lunged at them, according to the report.
