MAHWAH, NJ — A man who was found unresponsive in a Mahwah pool on Saturday has died, police said Monday.

Captain Michael Blondin of the Mahwah Police Department said that just before 6 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a Bedford Road home on a report of a possible drowning.

A family member had found a 68-year-old male resident of the home floating in the pool, police said.

Police removed the man and administered CPR. A medevac helicopter was requested but was cancelled, police said.

The man was taken to Good Samaritan hospital in Suffern by Mahwah EMS, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident is currently under investigation to determine if the man drowned or suffered a medical emergency and fell into the pool, Blondin said.

His identity is being withheld pending complete notification to family members, he said.
