Memorial Set for Local Marine Killed in Afghanistan
Mahwah will host part of a ceremony in honor of the late Eric Christian next month.

A local memorial has been set for a Ramsey High School graduate turned marine who was killed overseas this month.
Staff Sergeant Eric Christian was buried at Arlington National Cemetery earlier this week. Family members and friends of the late soldier will hold a memorial in Ramsey next month so locals looking to pay respect to the fallen soldier can do so in the town Christian called home for much of his youth.
According to borough resident and Christian family friend Jody Muti, a memorial in Christian’s honor will be held in Ramsey on Saturday, June 8. The following schedule of events is expected:

- 11:30 a.m. - Procession will begin at Redeemer Church on the corner of Woodland Ave. and Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey and will travel up Main Street to Veterans Park.
- 12 noon - Service will be held at the Veterans Park
- 1:30 p.m. – A reception will be at the Mahwah Elks Club, 1 Foxwood Lane, Mahwah
Christian grew up in Ramsey and Poughkeepsie, NY, played football while in high school in Ramsey, and graduated from RHS in 1993. After being inspired by September 11 to join the marines, Christian served five tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan, before being killed by a Afghan soldier earlier this month.
