Gottheimer Beats Pallotta In NJ District 5 Election, AP Says

Incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer is projected to win the 5th Congressional District race against Republican challenger Frank Pallotta.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer has been re-elected to represent District 5, according to the Associated Press.

"Thank you to North Jersey and all our supporters — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents," Gottheimer said in a Facebook post. "From the bottom of my heart, I will never forget your hard work — texts, calls, and getting out the vote. Tonight, common sense won. Extremism lost."

Gottheimer is declared the winner, with 103 of 486 precincts reporting and 95% of the expected vote counted. Gottheimer, a Democrat, received 139,566 votes, as of 12:16 p.m., while Republican challenger Frank Pallotta got 115,219 votes.

Official results will be available at a later date, pending certification.

District 5 includes all or portions of four counties — Bergen, Passaic, Sussex and Warren — and 79 municipalities.
