A Mahwah man was critically injured in a "very serious accident" on I-80 eastbound in Saddle Brook Monday afternoon, according to State Police Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Williams.
A box truck driven by Rudy Martinez, of Mahwah, lost control and struck the curb, concrete barrier and a concrete pillar under the Mayhill Street overpass at 2:56 p.m., according to Sgt. Adam Grossman. As the truck was crashing, it was struck from behind by a minivan driven by Guartamber Fausto, police said. The minivan ended up partially underneath the truck, cops said.
According to police, the truck and the minivan had two passengers each, and all six people were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Martinez was flown to Hackensack University Medical Center via medevac helicopter, police said.

He was still listed as being in critical condition Monday evening, Grossman said. Police Tuesday morning said they were not sure if there had been any updates made to Martinez's condition.
There were heavy traffic delays in the area Monday as emergency workers cleared the vehicles, which were blocking two eastbound lanes.
Police remained at the scene for several hours and the incident was still under investigation Monday evening, though the road was cleared.
