Republican Club Awards 'American Dream' Essay Winners

Mahwah students picked up scholarship money for their responses to an essay contest question.

Three high school students from Mahwah are scholarship recipients, thanks to their interpretations of the American Dream.

The township’s Republican Club announced in a release this week the winners of its 2013 High School Essay Contest:

  • 1st Place - Charles Rabolli, age 16 from Don Bosco Prep High School, $500.
  • 2nd Place - Emily Galow, age 17 from Mahwah High School, $250
  • 3rd Place - Brandon Schwartz, age 18 from Mahwah High School, $100.

The students entered essays that answered the question: How can an average American citizen preserve the American Dream? The students and their families were recognized at a Republican Club awards ceremony last month.

"We are very encouraged  and thankful for the participation of Mahwah's youth in this contest," Club Secretary Bob Lockwood said in a release. "We hope to make the scholarship drive and essay contest an annual event. We would like to thank all of the participants and congratulate the three winners."

Copies of the winning essays are posted on the Mahwah Republican Club website. Also check the website for info on the club, which meets every fourth Wednesday of the month at the Senior Center, and is open to all registered Republicans in the township.
