Tech Director Stole $400K From Bergen County Company, Prosecutors Say
The I.T. director at a Bergen County company used the money for personal cryptocurrency-related purchases, prosecutors said.
WALDWICK, NJ — A Waldwick man was arrested Tuesday for stealing more than $400,000 from the Bergen County company where he worked, and using it for personal purchases, prosecutors said.
Vincent B. Agay, 42, was charged with one count of second-degree theft by deception, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said that in November 2024, the Mahwah Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit regarding an alleged theft of funds from a Bergen County-based corporation.

A "lengthy" investigation determined that Agay, a former information technology director for the company, embezzled approximately $406,839 over two years.
Investigators said he used the funds to buy cryptocurrency mining hardware and computer infrastructure for his own benefit. He also tried to hide the purchases amid legitimate business expenses, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say that when the activity was flagged by security protocols, Agay came up with ways to suppress them.
Agay was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, prosecutors said.
