Uber Driver Helping Sick Passenger Hit By Passing Car: Bergen Co. Cops

A ride-share driver who pulled over and got out of the car to check on a sick passenger was hit by a passing vehicle in Waldwick, cops said.

WALDWICK, NJ — An Uber driver who had pulled over on the highway and got out of the car to check on a sick passenger was hit by a passing vehicle and hospitalized with injury, Waldwick police Lt. Troy Seifert said.

The ride-share driver, of Yonkers, was hit about 12:35 a.m. Saturday on Route 17 South prior to the Sheridan Avenue exit in Waldwick, police said.

The 31-year-old had pulled to the side when he learned the rear passenger in his Jeep Cherokee was not feeling well. He exited and was subsequently hit by a passing Honda sedan in the right lane of traffic. He was then hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The Honda driver, a 37-year-old Bergenfield resident, remained on scene and cooperated with police. No summonses were issued, police said.
