Internet Fraud Scams Manalapan Resident Of $36,000: Police

Manalapan police report several instances of fraud reported by residents, many of whom are victims of internet scams.

MANALAPAN, NJ — A 75-year-old township resident reported to police Jan. 27 of being defrauded via the internet in the amount of $36,000, police said.

This is just the latest among several reports of fraud - especially online fraud - that have been experienced recently by Manalapan residents.

  • A resident, 67, reported on Jan. 31 that someone opened several accounts in the victim’s name and then made purchases in the amount of $900.
  • A resident, 55, told police Jan. 30 that someone posing as an employee of Homeland Security defrauded the victim in the amount of $4,980 via telephone.
  • A resident, 41, told police on Jan. 28 that someone forged a check in the amount of $922.21 from the victim’s bank account.
  • A resident, 71, told police on Jan. 27 that someone withdrew $4,100 from a bank account on Jan. 11.

All the matters are being investigated by police.
