John I. Dawes Early Learning Center March Highlights
Check out the school's highlights from March 2013.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.
Character Education
The ELC continued its “Paws-itive Behavior Program.” Mrs. Fabiyan, our replacement guidance counselor, held mini-assemblies to introduce the kindergarten students to the ELC’s new character critter. The students met Carrie the Caring Cat and listened to a story about her. The children learned that being caring includes the following:
- Be kind to people.
- Show your friends and family that you care.
- Say please and thank you.
- Help others.
Posters of Carrie the Caring Cat and the list of caring traits are hung around the school. All staff members are reinforcing this trait, and the students are so excited to wear the paw print stickers they receive when they are caught demonstrating care. We will introduce the next character critter in April.

March Activities
March was a busy month at the ELC! We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with an assembly full of songs and movement. The Cat in the Hat even made a surprise visit! The PTA sponsored a book fair for the school, and the children enjoyed shopping for some new books. Monthly birthday celebrations were held as well, and school spirit days continued. We ended the month with a “Yosi” musical pajama party sponsored by the PTA.
Conferences
Spring conferences were held this month, and as usual, the building was bustling. Conferences are an important part of the home-school connection, and we appreciate all of our concerned and involved parents!
