Manalapan, Englishtown Officials Celebrated Read Across America

Manalapan Mayor Susan Cohen and other Manalapan Township and Englishtown officials put on a red and white stovepipe hat Wednesday, Feb. 27 to celebrate Read Across America with local children.

Read Across America is celebrated annually across the country by the National Education Association and honors the late Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) on March 1, the day before what would have been the author's 109^th birthday. 

In New Jersey, Read Across America is conducted by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities and the New Jersey Library Association.

“Dr. Seuss helped to instill the joy of reading in millions of children,” Cohen said.  “By celebrating his birthday, we hope to bring the joy of reading to the next generation.”

Both Mayor Cohen and Manalapan Police Department Chief Chris Marsala participated in Read Across America activites at Clark Mills School on Wednesday, Feb. 27 - specifically by reading the well-known Seuss classic "Green Eggs and Ham" to fifth grade classes. 

Englishtown Police Officer Scott Zapora and Manalapan-Englishtown Board of Education member Dotty Porcaro were also guest readers at Clark Mills School last Wednesday.
