Manalapan Umpire Charged With Child Porn Possession: Police

A 22-year-old umpire from Manalapan was charged last month with child pornography possession, authorities said.

MANALAPAN, NJ - A 22-year-old umpire from Manalapan was charged last month with child pornography possession, authorities said.

Jake Melman, 22, was arrested and charged with third degree possession of child pornography on April 20 following an investigation conducted by Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Manalapan police said in a blotter statement.

Task force members executed a search warrant on April 20 at Melman’s residence after the investigation found that Melman possessed, viewed and downloaded items depicting "child sexual abuse material," police said.

Melman was processed and remanded to Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a court appearance, police said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office confirmed Monday that after his arrest, he was released on his own recognizance pending a court hearing. The hearing is tentatively scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 31.
