MANALAPAN, NJ — A new recreation building is in the works for Manalapan residents, township officials recently announced.

The new building will be a state-of-the-art facility designed to expand opportunities for residents of all ages to gather, learn and play, and will serve as the "centerpiece" of Manalapan's recreational offerings, officials said.

With multi-purpose community rooms, indoor activity spaces, and areas dedicated to fitness, youth programs, and senior activities, officials said the building will also provide expanded opportunities for recreational classes, cultural events, and community programming throughout the year.

“This is an exciting milestone for Manalapan,” Mayor Eric Nelson said. “Our township has always taken pride in offering outstanding recreational opportunities, and this new facility will enhance our 212-acre Recreation Center.”

“We have what many consider to be the best municipally owned park in New Jersey, and the proposed 120,000+ sq. foot facility will provide a space where families, neighbors, and residents of all ages can come together,” Nelson continued. “It’s an investment in both our community and our future.”

Plans for the proposed project were explained to residents on Aug. 27 and discussed again on Sept. 3, with more public meetings set to be scheduled as plans for the building develop.

According to township officials, the building project reflects the town’s "ongoing commitment to enhancing quality of life for residents, while ensuring that recreation and community resources keep pace with the township's growth."

Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with an anticipated building opening in 2028.

“I am thrilled about this project, which will provide much-needed indoor space for our seniors and all those who participate in our recreation offerings,” said Deputy Mayor Mary Ann Musich, liaison to both the Township Recreation and Senior Departments. “It will enrich all of our programming.”

The recreation building project was made possible through the work of the Township Committee, Recreation Department, and community support, officials said. It will be funded through the town’s existing open space levy.

Updates on construction progress and further details will be shared on the Manalapan Township website and through official township communications.
