Zombie Teens "Deaden" Up the Party at Zombiefest

Over 100 zombie-teenagers braved the snowy weather for Zombiefest on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Teenagers in sixth grade and older dressed in their most gruesome zombie gear to get into the Halloween Spirit a few days early at the . While Mother Nature decided to dress up as winter for Halloween, Monmouth County youths braved the weather Saturday night to attend Zombiefest.

Coordinators of the Young Adult Program, Stephenie Acosta and Veronica Stevens transformed the site from Library Headquarters into “Halloween Headquarters”, complete with a cemetery archway, tombstones, and haunted woods.

“This is the third year in a row we are doing a Halloween event.  Usually it’s on Mischief night, but since that will be Sunday this year we decided to change it from a Mischief night party to a Zombiefest,” Acosta said.

Planning for the event began in August, and with help from the Library staff, teens were able to play video games, have tarot card readings, dance, and eat a wide variety of delicious treats.  There was even a “Brain Eating” Contest where eight lucky zombies raced against the clock to eat the greatest amount of jello-brains without using their hands.

Although the event ended early due to the inclement weather, over 100 teens from all over Monmouth County showed off their inner zombie!
