62-Year-Old from Deal NJ Survives Heart Attack with 100% Blockage

After a long day of consulting in New York City, Anthony Lucia, 62, from Deal, NJ, experienced a sudden and severe pain in his chest around midnight on July 18, 2023, which felt like being "electrocuted in his heart." Despite initial suspicions from his wife Jacqlene that it might be heartburn, Anthony's smart watch indicated otherwise. Following his wife’s advice, they headed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, just a few miles from their home.

Upon arrival, Anthony walked into the Emergency Department and immediately collapsed, suffering a cardiac arrest. Daniel Kiss, M.D., the cardiac interventionist who treated Anthony, explained that a complete blockage of his right coronary artery led to the heart muscle becoming irritated and developing fatal electrical rhythms. This type of heart attack, known as an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), triggered a series of critical medical emergencies for Anthony.
