Belmar Bans Marijuana, Cannabis Businesses Within Borough

BELMAR, NJ – Belmar is prohibiting any marijuana-related business from operating in town, according to a new ordinance approved last week.

The ordinance specifically prohibits businesses that manufacture, sell, distribute or deliver marijuana products. However, it does not ban the delivery of recreational marijuana from outside of Belmar.

This ordinance stems from a discussion at their May 18 council meeting where the council passed an ordinance banning the use of cannabis on municipal property. During the meeting, Mayor Mark Walsifer asked the council what their thoughts were about cannabis being sold in the borough.

Belmar joins other local municipalities like Wall to ban all marijuana-related businesses, including cultivation and delivery service.
