Belmar Man Dies In Garden State Parkway Crash: Police

A Belmar man was struck and killed this weekend as he stood outside a car on the Garden State Parkway, police said.

BELMAR – A Belmar man was struck and killed this weekend as he stood outside a car on the Garden State Parkway, police said.

John Carroll, 60, was hit as he stood outside the vehicle on the shoulder of the southbound lanes at mile-marker 115.9, police said.

Carroll was standing outside the empty car around 10 p.m. on Friday when he another vehicle struck him and the car, police said.

Carroll suffered fatal injuries in the crash, police said. A 41-year-old Woodbridge man who was driving the other vehicle was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
