Partly sunny skies with a chance of showers and thunderstorms on tap for today..

The National Weather Service is calling for partly sunny skies, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Highs will be in the mid-80s, with southwesterly winds from 10 to 15 miles per hour.

Strong thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening, with strong wind gusts, heavy rain and hail.

There's a low risk of rip currents today, but rips can still occur, especially near jetties and other structures. Always swim on a guarded beach and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you always bring a flotation device with you in the water.

Waves will be from 3 to 4 feet, with southerly swells around 2 feet. The water temperature has warmed up to 71 degrees.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. The lightning threat is moderate, which means thunderstorms are possible.

High tide at Belmar rolled in at 9:31 a.m. Low tide will arrive at 3:29 p.m., followed by another high tide at 9:38 p.m.
