Coastal Monmouth County Beach Report For July 8, 2017

Mostly sunny skies, low rip current risk and warming ocean temperatures on tap for today.

The National Weather Service is calling for a decent beach day in coastal Monmouth County with mostly sunny skies and warming ocean temperatures.

There's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the day. Highs today will be in the upper 80s, with southwest winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour.

The rip current risk is low. But rips can still occur near jetties and other structures. Always swim on guarded beaches and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you bring a floatation device with you in the water.

Waves will be around 3 feet high, with southeast swells of two feet. The water temperature has warmed up to 69 degrees, the warmest so far this summer.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. The lightning threat is low, which means there is little chance of thunderstorms.

Low tide at Belmar will roll in at 1:27 p.m., followed by high tide at 8:13 p.m.
