Diver Pulled From The Wreck Of The Andrea Doria Identified
Crew members from the Belmar-based Ol' Salty II worked on the man for two hours, to no avail.

East Hampton, New York police have identified a diver who died on the wreck of the Andrea Doria as Stephen Slater, 46, of Gateshead, England, according to a report in the Cape Cod Times.
Slater was diving with a group on the Belmar-based Ol' Salty II on Monday, 60 miles southeast of Nantucket. Crew members tried to save him with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation for two hours, to no avail.
A helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod responded to the scene and communicated with crew members, but Slater unresponsive remained on the boat and the crew headed to Montauk, New York, a Coast Guard spokesperson has said.

The boat arrived in Montauk Harbor early Tuesday. Slater was declared dead on the scene by a representative of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, said East Hampton Police Capt. Christopher Anderson.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, but police are investigating the possibility of an equipment malfunction and waiting for the autopsy results.
