Dr. Michael Joseph Doyle, Jr., Family Physician To Decades Of Patients, Dies At 83

Services for Mantoloking resident will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Dr. Michael Joseph Doyle of Mantoloking passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 22. He was 83.

He was born in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Seton Hall University and the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University. As a captain in the U.S. Army, he served as a post surgeon at Camp Kilmer before completing his internship at Monmouth Medical Center. He was a family physician to four generations of patients during his fifty-five year private practice in Neptune.

Michael was a past president and committee chair of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians, from whom he was recently recognized for his dedication to family practice with the establishment of an annual award to be given in his name to a family practice resident in one of the New Jersey programs. He was active nationally in his profession and served many roles in the American Academy of Family Physicians, including Chairman of the Board of Directors, the Commission on Special Issues and Clinical Interests, the Committee on Professional Liability, and other national liaison roles. He was recognized as the AAFP 1992 Family Physician of the Year.

On a local level, he was the founding director of the Jersey Shore Medical Center's Physician Emergency Service. In service to his community of Mantoloking, he was the fire company physician, a member of the Board of Health, the emergency planning committee, and he was politically active as a trustee of the Regular Republican Party of Mantoloking.

Michael was predeceased by his wife of forty years Teresa Healey Doyle, his sisters Ann Behan and Mary White.

He is survived by his wife Mary Frawley Ring and his six children, Michael (Lesa) of Tampa, FL; Kathleen Whelply (Frederick) of Bayonne, NJ; Kevin (Maria) of Point Pleasant, NJ ; Sean of Huntington, NY; Sharon Arndt (David) of Fairfax Station, VA; and Kieran (Cecilia) of Clark, NJ; and sixteen grandchildren (Michael, Kelly, Sean, Heather, Alicia, F.Grant, Emily, Kara, Ryan, Turner, Maggie, William, Timothy, Stephen, Teresa and Oliver), his sister Ellen Conry of Belmar and his two sisters-in-law Delores Kolodjeski of Interlaken and Ann Dlouhy of Denville.

Mike is also loved by Mary's six children and her fifteen grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall Township, NJ 07719. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, 751 Main Ave. (Rt. 35), Bay Head, NJ 08742. Burial will be in the Doyle family plot at St. Anne's Cemetery, 1610 Allenwood Road, Wall.

In lieu of flowers the family specifically requests donations to the New Jersey Academy of Family Physician Foundation, 224 West State St., Trenton, NJ 08608. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home on Tuesday.
