Glimmer Glass Bridge Will Reopen Before July 4
However, at some point soon, the bridge will have to be replaced entirely, the county revealed:
MANASQUAN, NJ – Provided all repair work goes as planned, the Glimmer Glass Bridge is now scheduled to reopen prior to the July 4th holiday.
In the meantime, the navigation channel under the bridge will be open to boaters 24/7 on the weekends, and be open from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. on week days.
This was just announced Wednesday, June 19 by Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone.

"Despite continuous maintenance by Monmouth County, the age and condition of the structure has reached the point where the bridge has become unreliable," said Arnone. "In order to ensure the continuous safe operation of this structure for vehicular, pedestrian and marine traffic, it is time to replace the bridge in its entirety. To replace the Bridge will cost around $30 million, which includes 2-3 years of design work because the State Historical Preservation Office will need to review the application."
"We recognize the frequent maintenance of the structure creates significant inconvenience to the residents and visitors of the Manasquan area, however, the safety of our residents and visitors must remain our top priority," the county commissioner added.
It was last Friday, June 14, that it was discovered necessary and immediate repair work needed to be done on the bridge: Repairs specifically need to be made to the steel stringers that support the deck of the moveable span on the bridge.
The bridge was shut down that same day for a more detailed inspection. The cost of these specific repairs is approximately $100,000.
Since last Friday, June 14, the bridge has been shut down to all vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. In order for the repair work to be completed by the July 4th weekend, it is necessary to close the navigation channel on Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
