Monmouth County Beach Weather Report: Rough Seas, High Risk Of Lightning

It's a good day to skip the beach.

The National Weather Service is calling for a high risk of lightning today and a moderate risk of rip currents on Monmouth County beaches.

And considering there are few guarded beaches left, it's a good day to stay out of the water.

Skies will be cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. The high today will be in the mid-70s. Winds will be from the southwest at 5 miles per hour, switching over to northwest in the afternoon.

There's a moderate risk of rip currents. Swim only on guarded beaches, if you can find any and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you bring a flotation device with you in the water.

Waves will be around 4 feet high, with southerly swells around 4 feet. The ocean water temperature is 71 degrees.

The ultraviolet index is a 3, which the National Weather Service considers moderate.

Low tide at Belmar rolled in at 2:04 p.m. High tide will arrive at 8:10 p.m.
