Proceeds From Upcoming Belmar Historical Society Fundraiser Will Benefit 'The Doughboy"
The historic statute is nearing 100 years old and was vandalized earlier this year.

Belmar's iconic "Doughboy" statue, which was vandalized in September 2016, will receive the proceeds of the Belmar Historical Society's upcoming fundraiser on Aug. 8.
The fundraiser will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh on 16th Avenue. The Pat Roddy Band will provide the music.
Vandals earlier this year broke the scabbard off the soldier's rifle and loosened the sculpture from its base, according to a report in the Ocean Star. The statute is located in Doughboy Park, between Route 35 and the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line tracks.

“This year was the 100th anniversary of our troops entering World War I, so our Doughboy statue, which is a WWI monument, we want to get it back to its former glory,” BHS Trustee Naomi Reissner said.
A plaque on the base lists 102 service members from Belmar who served during the Great War
