Teen Dies After Pulled From Water At Jersey Shore Beach, Police Say
A second swimmer was able to get to shore safely, Belmar police said.
BELMAR, NJ — A 13-year-old child died Friday night after being pulled unresponsive from the ocean at the 7th Avenue beach in Belmar, police said.
The teen's identity was being withheld because the victim is a child, police said.
Several 911 calls reported a swimmer in distress at the 8th Avenue beach at 6:36 p.m. Friday, Belmar police said, and when they arrived, they learned one swimmer was out of the water but another juvenile swimmer was missing.

Belmar Water Rescue went into the water to search for the missing teen and found the 13-year-old at 7:29 p.m. off the 7th Avenue beach, police said. The teen was unresponsive and pulled from the water.
Lifesaving efforts were made by Belmar lifeguards, Belmar EMS, Wall Township EMS, and Hackensack Meridian paramedics and the teen was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

"Despite extensive efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased," Belmar police said.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
Lifeguards are on duty in Belmar until 6 p.m. on Fridays, according to the borough's website.
The death comes less than a week after a 31-year-old Trenton man drowned and several other swimmers had to be rescued in Seaside Heights, and less than a day after two swimmers got caught in rip currents in the South Seaside Park section of Berkeley Township. In those rescues, lifeguards had gone off-duty at 5 p.m.
