'PPE Brigade' Protects Frontliners

The Filipino-American Community & Development Center of Ocean County donates hundreds of PPE to local healthcare workers.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spread throughout Ocean County, the Filipino-American Community & Development Center of Ocean County (FCDC), has donated at least 200 masks and 150 face shields to date. Past-President of FCDC, Dr. Jose Ramon Suatengco, saw the growing need for PPE for frontliners in local medical facilities. He solicited help from FCDC members, encouraging people with the time and talent to make masks to meet the demands of healthcare workers, who are in short supply of PPE.

Currently, 15 families and individuals make up the group that has been dubbed the “PPE Brigade.” They use their personal resources to make PPE, and another local organization, the Filipino-American Medical Society, generously donated $1,000 toward the cost of materials. Dr. Sautengco says, “A terrible pandemic is at hand; an invisible enemy has engaged in battle. We can all do our part to save lives and win the battle.”

The Filipino-American Community & Development Center of Ocean County is a locally-based non-profit organization that serves to bring awareness and education about the Philippine culture, and also participates in charitable causes. To learn more about FCDC, please visit www.fcdcnj.org.
