Smith Easily Wins NJ 4th District House Race In 2024: AP

Rep. Chris Smith has won election to his 23rd term representing parts of New Jersey in the House of Representatives, AP projects.

NEW JERSEY — U.S. Rep. Chris Smith has won election to his 23rd term in the House of Representatives, according to projections by the Associated Press.

Smith, a Republican, was well ahead of his challengers with 56 percent of the votes counted Tuesday night.

Smith had received 152,806 votes, 65.9 percent of the ballots cast, according to unofficial tallies posted by AP as of 8:45 p.m.

Matthew Jenkins, the Democratic candidate, had 77,222 votes. John Morrison of the Libertarian Party had received 1,014 and Green Party candidate Barry Bendar had 902.

Smith was expected to easily win the seat again in 2024, as he has faced few real challenges from outside the Republican Party for his seat, which represents parts of Ocean and Monmouth counties. Ocean County is a Republican stronghold in New Jersey.
