MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township woman was hospitalized after a crash on Route 70 on Sunday afternoon, Manchester police said.

Ledy Huallpajaimes, 66, suffered extensive leg injuries in the crash that happened about 3 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 70 and Route 571, Manchester Lt. Albert Vega said.

Huallpajaimes was driving a blue 2010 Honda Civic south on Route 571 and tried to turn left onto Route 70 east, but in doing so crossed into the path of a black 2023 Honda CRV that was northbound on Route 571, Vega said.

The collision sent the CRV off the road and into a traffic sign, while the Civic spun and stopped in the intersection facing west, he said.

Both vehicles suffered extensive front-end damage but the driver of the CRV, David Castro, 62, of the Allenwood section of Wall Township, was not injured, Vega said.

Huallpajaimes was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and was listed as stable, he said.

Patrolman Sage Sysol of the department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating, but the preliminary investigation indicates failure to observe the traffic signal appears to be the primary contributing factor, Vega said.

Assisting at the scene were EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, firefighters from Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Hatzolah and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics.

The road was closed during the investigation and cleanup.
