MANVILLE, NJ — Tina Breen, current President of the Manville Board of Education and a passionate advocate for public education, has officially announced her candidacy for re-election in the upcoming Nov. 4 election.

"As both a parent and a community leader, I care deeply about the future of Manville’s schools," Breen said. "Our children deserve every opportunity to thrive in a safe, supportive, and forward-thinking learning environment. I’m running for re-election to continue strengthening our schools, supporting our educators, and ensuring that our district remains a source of pride for every Manville resident."

Breen currently serves as President of the Manville Board of Education, where she has focused on transparency, fiscal responsibility, and fostering collaboration between the Board, district leadership, and the community. She has served on several key committees, including Policy, Curriculum and Instruction, Facilities and Finance, Personnel, and chaired the Negotiations Committee, where she helped lead collective bargaining agreements with fairness and integrity.

Professionally, Breen is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Manufacturers Reserve Supply, where she has worked for 19 years. She holds a master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Purdue University and brings more than 25 years of leadership experience to her role on the Board.

Breen has also served as a board member for the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter, the Manville Library Board, and two private companies within her industry. In addition, she volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for seven years, where she discovered her passion for developing leadership skills in young girls.

Her professional and volunteer experiences have given her a deep understanding of organizational leadership, communication, and community collaboration.

"I want to use my professional experience and my education to serve the Manville School District — where I feel I can make the greatest impact, where it matters and means the most to me... our children, our future," Breen said.

Tina and her two children, students in the Manville School District, are proud members of the Manville community.

Vision & Priorities

If re-elected, Breen plans to continue building upon the progress already made during her tenure, with a focus on improving learning environments, supporting staff, and promoting excellence throughout the district. Her priorities include:

  1. Addressing Space and Class Size Challenges — Developing a long-term facilities plan to reduce class sizes and create modern, engaging learning environments where every student can succeed.
  2. Supporting Classroom Focus — Partnering with district leadership to implement strategies that minimize distractions, allowing students to stay focused and teachers to maximize instructional time.
  3. Improving Student Outcomes — Supporting initiatives that drive academic improvement, including efforts to strengthen test scores, elevate district rankings, and ensure all students meet their potential.
  4. Academic Excellence & Innovation — Continuing to expand access to rigorous curricula, technology, and innovative programs that prepare students for the future.
  5. Supporting Teachers and Administration — Advocating for resources and professional development opportunities that empower educators and foster a positive, productive work environment.
  6. Fiscal Responsibility & Transparency — Ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely and that budgets reflect both immediate needs and long-term sustainability.
  7. Safe, Modern Facilities — Investing in school safety, infrastructure, and maintenance to provide secure, up-to-date spaces for learning.
  8. Equity & Inclusion — Promoting fairness and belonging so every student, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed.

There have not been any initiatives in town for a “Meet the Candidates” night this election season. In light of this, Tina welcomes the opportunity to connect directly with residents to discuss what matters most to them regarding the Manville School District.
