Crime Down, But Uptick in Car Thefts Reported

The number of crimes reported in Marlboro dropped from 397 in 2012 to 391 in 2013, according to the Uniform Crime Report.

While the number of reported crimes ticked down slightly in 2013, the number of simple assaults and auto thefts increased in Marlboro, according to data released by State Police as part of the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR).

The number of crimes reported dropped from 397 in 2012 to 391 in 2013, according to the report though the numbers are unofficial and not listed as verified.

Among reported incidents of crime, there were 18 auto thefts in 2013, up from just seven in the previous year. In addition, there were 83 reported incidents of simple assault (hands, fists, feet etc.) in 2013, up from 59 in 2012.

Marlboro’s Crime Index dropped from 338 in 2012 to 308 in 2013, according to the report. The number of reported Violent Crimes dropped from 17 in 2012 to 10 in 2013, and the number of reported non-violent crimes dropped from 321 in 2012 to 298.

According to the report, there was one reported rape in 2013, the same as the previous year.

There were three reported assaults with a gun in 2013, up one from the previous year, one reported assault with “other dangerous weapon”, down from five in the previous year, and five reported incidents of aggravated assault (hands, fists, feet, etc.).

According to the report, there were 35 reported incidents of forcible entry (burglary) in 2013, down from 51 in the previous year; 18 incidents of unlawful entry in 2013, up from 16; and 11 incidents of attempted forcible entry in 2013, down from 17.

In addition, 216 reported incidents of larceny in 2013, down from 227 in 2012.
