MARLBORO, NJ — A candidate who suspended her campaign for the Marlboro Township Board of Education race is among three candidates with the most votes in unofficial results of the 2025 General Election.

With 34 out of 34 districts reporting, incumbent Michael Lilonsky and newcomers Kerry Ann Jankowski and Melissa Goldberg were leading for three full-term seats on the board.

Incumbent Valentina Mendez is shown to have the next most votes at 6,256 votes, followed by challenger Scott Semaya at 4,825 votes, according to unofficial results.

Though five people are listed as candidates for the Marlboro Township Board of Education race, candidate Melissa Goldberg suspended her campaign in early October, and candidate Scott Semaya is said to have suspended his as well, though Patch has been unable to directly confirm that with Semaya.

The two initially ran for the board with Michael Lilonsky under the campaign "CORE," though Lilonsky has since run alone for re-election.

While Goldberg and Semaya’s campaigns may have been suspended, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office said the deadline for school board candidates to drop out of the race was Aug. 15, which is why voters still saw their names listed on the ballot.

Should Goldberg receive a qualifying number of votes in the election, she told Patch that she will not accept a seat on the board.

“I am grateful for everyone I have met,” Goldberg said. “I currently cannot commit to this role in addition to my other responsibilities.”

News of the candidates suspending their campaigns came around the time that alleged threats toward current school board member Danielle Bellomo surfaced, with Semaya alleged to have been part of a group chat where the messages were discovered.

After photos of the messages were posted on Facebook, Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik condemned them and said that “those responsible are clearly not equipped to hold public office.” Marlboro Police confirmed to Patch that they are investigating the messages.

All election results remain unofficial until certified by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office. Unofficial election results can be found below:
