Marlboro Unveils New High School Football Recreation Facility

MARLBORO, NJ — Marlboro Township has welcomed a new football recreation facility at Marlboro High School, Mayor Jonathan Hornik announced Tuesday.
The new facility will serve as the home of the Marlboro High School Mustangs and includes a multi-purpose turf field, bleachers, a press box and sports lighting, officials said. It can be configured for football, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey.
On Wednesday, Marlboro High School’s graduation ceremonies will be the first official event to take place on the new field.

“As a proud MHS alumnus, Class of 1988, it gives me great personal pleasure to bring this beautiful field — a dream for many years — to reality,” Hornik said. “It is extra special to be attending this year’s graduation on these beautiful new grounds as we congratulate the students and parents of the class of 2025."
The total investment in the new field is approximately $3.5 million, according to township officials, and the cost of the high school field projects will be offset by revenues generated through a Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement, which was secured by the town to facilitate the clean-up and redevelopment of a former junkyard.

According to Hornik, Marlboro’s credit remains at the highest grade available in the marketplace with triple-A ratings from both Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s.
“This means that our taxpayers continue to benefit from the lowest possible costs for road, parks and recreation, and other capital improvements,” Hornik said. “It is important to note that while municipal government cannot fund school programs or building improvements, we can and do invest in recreation projects that benefit and are enjoyed by the greater community.”
Dr. David Bleakley, the principal of Marlboro High School, called the reconstruction of the school’s Athletic Stadium a “profound change” for the high school, and said the new stadium “reflects a standard of excellence” that both student-athletes and coaches represent, and that the community deserves.
“While the former stadium served this community well for more than 50 years, I am very excited about the opportunities the new stadium will provide for our school community,” Bleakley said. “I am also deeply grateful to Mayor Hornik and the Marlboro Township government collectively for making this dream into a reality."
“Investing in our recreation programs and infrastructure is critical to maintaining the suburban character of the Township,” Hornik said. “Preserving open space and farmland and improving the quality and quantity of recreational opportunities helps maintain Marlboro’s status as a premier place to live, work and raise a family.”
