Monmouth County Lifeguards Win National Lifeguard Championship

Monmouth County lifeguards defeated the 27-year reigning champion, the LA County Surf Life Saving Association, to capture the title.

The Monmouth County Chapter of lifeguards, representing several Jersey Shore beaches, won the 2014 Nautica United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) National Lifeguard Championships team title on Saturday, August 9 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

NJEON.com is reporting that the Monmouth County group defeated the LA County Surf Life Saving Association, who had captured the team title for the 27 previous years.

Professional lifeguards from 64 USLA chapters around the country competed in individual and team competitions for both water and beach course events challenging their lifesaving skills. Monmouth County led as a team with the most points, over LA County Surf Life Saving Association in second and Smith Point, New York taking the Division B title for chapters of 100 lifeguards or less.
