
John Zeleznik 98, formerly of Carteret and then of Marlboro, died on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge. He was born in Chisholm, Minnesota and lived in Carteret for many years before moving to Marlboro 24 years ago.
John was a parishioner of St. Elias Byzantine Catholic Church in Carteret. He retired in 1979 from US Metals Refining Company in Carteret, where he worked for 14 years as a Crane Operator. Prior to that, he was employed by City Service in Linden, as a Pipe Fitter for 21 years.
John is predeceased by his wife, Julia Zeleznik, who died in 2003; his son, John G. Zeleznik, who died in 2000; his brother, George and his sister, Anna. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Madeline Zeleznik of Morganville; his 5 grandsons, Stephen and his wife, Joanne, Thomas and his wife, Michelle, Michael, Jonathan and his wife, Nicole, and Matthew and his wife, Angel; and his 10 great grandchildren, Heather, Brianna, Daniel, Harley, Isabelle, Cassidy, Christina, John, Savannah and Madison.
The Funeral will be on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9:30 a.m. at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue in Carteret. Divine Liturgy will be at 10 a.m. at St. Elias Byzantine Catholic Church in Carteret. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Parastas Service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
