Woman Killed In Marlboro Motor Vehicle Crash, Prosecutor Says

MARLBORO, NJ — A woman has died following a motor vehicle crash in Marlboro Township on Saturday morning, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, members of the Marlboro Township Police Department responded to the area of Route 9 and County Route 520 for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian and motor vehicle.

Once officers arrived at the scene, investigation revealed that a woman was trying to cross from the southbound to northbound side of traffic when a collision with a Honda CR-V occurred.

The woman, later identified as Sherril Sakas, 70, of Totowa, died from injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said.

The male driver of the CR-V remained on scene and was identified as a 69-year-old male from Tinton Falls, Marlboro Police said.

As of Monday morning, prosecutors said no charges or summonses have been issued in regard to the incident.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Marlboro Township Police Department remains active and ongoing.
