Report: Crime Down in 2013 Despite Increase in Car Thefts

The number of crimes reported dropped from 2012 to 2013, according to the Uniform Crime Report. Though the numbers are unofficial and not listed as verified.

While overall crime dropped in Colts Neck from 2012 to 2013, there was an increase in car thefts, according to data released by State Police as part of the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR).

The number of crimes reported dropped from 114 in 2012 to 107 in 2013, according to the report though the numbers are unofficial and not listed as verified.

Among reported incidents of crime, there were 12 auto thefts in 2013, up from just two in the previous year.

Colts Neck’s Crime Index dropped from 99 in 2012 to 91 in 2013. Violent Crime dropped from 7 incidents in 2012 to 3 in 2013, and incidents of non-violent crime dropped from 92 to 88.

In 2013, there was one reported incident of robbery with a firearm, and one assault with a “knife or cutting instrument.”

In addition, there was one aggravated assault in 2013, down from 4 in the previous year.

However, there were 16 incidents of simple assault (hands, fists, feet etc.), in 2013, an increase of one.

Burglaries dropped in 2013, with 12 reported incidents of forcible entry, down from 20. There were five incidents of unlawful entry in 2013, an increase of one from the previous year, and two incidents of reported attempted forcible entry, down from 5 in 2012.

In addition, there were 57 incidents of larceny-theft reported in 2013, down from 60 reported incidents in 2012.
