Schools, Towns Close Due to Snow, Urge Residents to Stay Safe

With snow Tuesday’s storm expected to bring close to a foot of snow with it, area officials are asking residents to be safe, and remove cars from the roads.

All afternoon and evening activities at local schools and in Marlboro have been canceled. In Colts Neck, township offices closed at noon.

Freehold Regional called for an earlier dismissal, as has Marlboro and Colts Neck School districts.

Earlier today, Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik released the following statement.

Dear Resident,



The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 10 a.m. this morning and continuing until 6 a.m. Wednesday.  

Snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are expected in our area.  Marlboro Department of Public Works (DPW) has been out since early this morning applying deicing material to the roads.

 All Marlboro recreation programs beginning after 11:15 a.m. are cancelled.  Both Marlboro K-8 and the Freehold Regional High school have announced an early dismissal today and cancelled after-school activities. 



As per Township ordinance, please remove all vehicles from the street so that the plows can properly and safely clear the snow from the roadways.  (When shoveling, snow should be piled to the right of your driveway when looking toward the street from your house.) The Fire Department reminds us to clear the snow from around the fire hydrants to prevent the lines from freezing.

This storm is expected to continue throughout the day and evening.  Low visibility and areas of drifting and blowing snow will develop overnight.  The wind chill is expected to be as low as 10 below zero.  I urge to you stay home and be safe.
