Temple Rodeph Torah Donates 13,000 Pounds of Food During Yom Kippur

Temple Rodeph Torah in Marlboro used Yom Kippur as a day of community service and reflection.

Yom Kippur is much more than a fast for the Jewish community. It is a time to reflect on the past year and atone for sins. And at Temple Rodeph Torah, it is a time to give back.

Rabbi Donald Weber of TRT reported that this year, on the heels of his message to "make an unfair world a little more fair," the annual Yom Kippur food drive brought in 13,590 pounds of food. That's a nearly seven ton donation to the Food bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

“The truck was filled from front to back and from floor to ceiling,” said Rabbi Weber. “We are so happy to be able to share our good fortune with those who have less, and I am grateful to everyone who gave so generously.”

On Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Weber The food drive was one of the first examples of this philosophy being put into action, as he called on temple members to “give with joy. Do not give because you feel guilty; give because you feel blessed.”
