Aberdeen Chiropractor Seeks to Raise Ton of Canned Food for the Needy

Food donations on Saturday, November 12th will mark the 24th annual Thankful Day

Dr. Andrew Daniele is no stranger to helping people. As a teenager he decided to become a chiropractor for the sole purpose of giving people a different and holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle by focusing on their nerves and spine.

Four years ago Daniele moved into his office on the corner of Route 34 and South Atlantic Ave to accommodate his growing practice. The current location was a little too large to just have Daniele’s own practice there so he and wife Heather decided to team up and combine their passions.

“My wife is a yoga teacher and she has been an instructor for over ten years and has a great group of instructors here. We love what we do and this is just an extension of our family”.

Staying local and caring for patients for 26 years has also allowed Daniele to become a part of the families he cares for. In fact, the “Raisin Room” (a room that has framed boxes of raisins hanging on top of the door frame) is decorated with pictures of Daniele’s young patients and families that have three different generations of clients attending the practice. Doing what Daniele calls “Raisin healthy and happy families with chiropractics”.

Although Daniele’s practice has grown exponentially over the years and now includes a yoga studio on the premise, one constant at About You Chiropractic and Yoga is their annual Thankful Day. This Saturday, November 12th will mark the 24th annual Thankful Day where all fees are waived for their clients’ adjustments in exchange for canned food.

“It’s a way to bring to people’s consciousness that we have so much to be thankful for. We live in such a wonderful country and have a high standard of living but unfortunately some people don’t. So what we do is give all our services for free and ask people to bring in as much canned food as they can – it’s our way to let people participate in the community.”

The yoga studio is also getting in on the Thankful Day action with a Yogathon. From 9 a.m. till 12 p.m. there will be continuous yoga at a beginner’s level by all the instructors. People can come in at any point and do as much yoga as they want for an exchange of canned food. It is even possible to get sponsored for this year’s yogathon where every interval of yoga performed results in a specific amount of canned food from a sponsor.

“It’s been one of the most fulfilling things because people look forward to it, they enjoy participating. They know it is some Saturday in November and come October people start asking what day Thankful Day is this year – they really look forward to it”

If you are not a client of About You Chiropractic and Yoga you can still participate in Thankful Day by scheduling an appointment for a full chiropractic evaluation the following week. Payment of canned food will be accepted.

This year, About You Chiropractic and Yoga has set a goal of donating a ton - literally, not figuratively - of food for the food bank.

“People are incredible; they will come in and literally empty their car trunks out. People are very generous if you just give them an opportunity.”

A truck from the food bank will be outside of About You Chiropractic and Yoga from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More information on About You Chiropractic and Yoga’s 24th annual Thankful Day can be found on their website.
